Oceano's Vocalist Was a Backyard Wrestler
Have you ever wanted to start your own wrestling federation? Don't be shy. It would be fun. Your friends all gathering in a backyard some flying airborne with moves never imagined they possessed while others trash talking in voices they borrowed. Well the first step to starting a backyard wrestling federation of your own is to be bored. "I had nothing to do when I first moved to my neighborhood," Adam Warren of Oceano told Noisecreep on why he started backyard wrestling. That's right. The harrowing screamer behind Oceano Adam Warren was a backyard wrestler. He wrestled from the time he was in grade school up until his junior year of high school. "It was like a mock of WWE and things like that, like the professionals but in a backyard and a very low budget. Probably a little more riskier," he says.
Putting together The Chicago Wrestling Alliance was not too unlike starting a band or a local scene in the suburbs. Adam says, "Basically I just met other kids in the area who were into wrestling and stuff. I had a few friends that did do it just not as seriously like we did it. I just gathered them all up and we all became friends. We got shows together. We were pretty serious. Posted flyers at school, we had a decent little following. Everyone knew about us."
This was a serious thing for Adam, for quite a while everyday was a main event in the backyard to be involved in and watch. And of course the question that really matters, what was Adam's wrestling name? "Hellraiser." He continues, "my move was called 'the ride to hell.' It was basically The Stone Cold Stunner but a little modified."
All of this should come as no surprise as the live shows of Oceano are known for violent outbreaks from the crowds where Adam is a ringmaster and an announcer who growls over the brawls. The crippling suplex that is 'Depths', the debut album from Oceano comes out April 7 on Earache.
