East Coast Bamboozle: Hair Whips and Horns!

"It was absolutely insane," MyChildren MyBride vocalist Matthew Hastings told Noisecreep about the Bamboozle crowd that gathered to watch his band's set on Saturday, May 2 at the Meadowlands Sports Complex in East Rutherford, NJ.

"There were kids as far as the eye could see and they showed us a lot of respect. There were a lot of hair whips and horns," said Hastings, who proudly boasts "the biggest ears in metal," sporting two inch power stretchers that are no joke!

While the East Coast Bamboozle largely caters to the Warped Tour, emo and pop punk crowds, this year's fest didn't scrimp on the metallest of the metal. So just how did Bamboozle East punctuate the plethora of pop punk like No Doubt and Fall Out Boy? By dropping a smattering of metal warriors, like The Acacia Strain, GWAR (below) and Parkway Drive, in the mix over two days of pre-summer, outdoor concert fun.

"Don't go out like a bitch," Whitechapel vocalist Phil Bozeman barked to the crowd, during what was easily the loudest and most tinnitus-causing set of Saturday. Indeed, there were no bitches in the pit; just moshers and curious spectators and there's nothing wrong with that.

Metal and emo may appear to be strange bedfellows on paper, but there was an almost Woodstock'ian vibe to this fest; as in, everyone got along and celebrated a love of music. The kids may be young but they are open-minded and didn't hesitate to take a gander at the metal bands. Fest attendee Michael Falcone remarked, "I feel like one of the oldest people here, but there's a good representation of music styles, moreso than usual. The lineup is pretty diverse." We couldn't agree more.
