Bonnaroo 2009: Nine Inch Nails, Shadows Fall, Coheed and Cambria
Bonnaroo started in 2002 and has become the biggest music and arts festival in America. Slated for June 11-14, thousands of music lovers and tree huggers will meet at a massive farm in Manchester, Tennessee. Bonnaroo started with jam bands and now attracts top rock talent from around the world. "Bonnaroo is a unique event because we were the first event to understand that today's fan has very eclectic tastes," admits Ken Weinstein, publicist for Bonnaroo. "They grew up liking all music. Not just indie rock, jazz, reggae, metal, singer/songwriter, world, hip-hop, but all of it, and they like it good and they have discretionary taste."
This year, Bruce Springsteen and Phish anchor the fest, which will also feature performances by Nine Inch Nails, Shadows Fall, Coheed and Cambria and The Mars Volta. Resident metal heads and hippies coexist peacefully for the four-day Bonnaroo run.
The key Bonnaroo experience? It's a tie between camping and greening. Festival goers are encouraged to car pool to the event and organizers sponsor trash and recycling contests.
"We have an incredible array for entertainment options to make for the best weekend of anyone's life -- music, comedy, film, food, eco education and more," continues Weinstein. "Click you heels three times and repeat: 'There's no place like Bonnaroo.'"
Cost: VIP (two tickets, entire run of festival) - $1349.50; General Admission (four day) - $249.50; hotel and RV packages available.
