Eyes Set to Kill's Rodriguez Sisters Enjoy Sisterly Bonds on the Road
Being a girl in a heavy band has its own unique set of challenges. But Arizona's deathy, screamo quintet Eyes Set to Kill have it easier, since Alexia and Anissa Rodriguez are sisters!"Alexia is not only my older sister, but she's also my best friend," bassist Anissa told Noisecreep. "We get along so well because we have so much in common and can always relate to each other. Of course, there's gonna be some bickering from time to time, but what sisters don't get into little arguments every now and then?"
Being on tour with her sister is "the best," according to Anissa, "because we can always be there for one another. Especially since we're surrounded by boys every day and it's good to have some girl time. We keep each other sane and no one else understands me and looks out for me as much as she does, especially since we're both going through the same experiences and lifestyle of being in a band. It wouldn't be the same without her."
The Sisters Rodriguez always look super fetching, despite the rigors that living on the road can impart on a grrl's personal style. "We drive to the venue, catch up on sleep, do interviews," Anissa said. "Then we load in, set up equipment on stage and soundcheck so Alexia and I don't really care how we look until the important things are out of the way. We usually don't get ready until before doors open and we'll sit in the van, do our make up and get changed. Towards the middle of tour, it gets harder for to try and look good, because we haven't showered in days and have no more clean clothes to wear. But somehow we've managed! Thank God for baby wipes, makeup, and hair straighteners."
Eyes Set to Kill's 'The World Outside' is out now, and guitarist/lead vocalist Alexia offered her take on the new material. "It's a pretty dark and heavy record, but we maintained the honest lyrics and upbeat sound." Alexia dealt with a bout of writer's block for the album, but she actually inspired herself, saying, "Out of frustration and self-disappointment, I found personal issues within myself to put into lyrics." She claims that 'Come Home' is her favorite song, as it addresses her familial issues in regards to her father and step-father, who left the girls. Alexia said, "It's basically about my struggle with figuring out who I am without them and who I could have been if they didn't leave. There are a lot of personal, touchy subjects that we cover and people will be able to relate easily."
