Sleeping Giant Believe All You Need Is Love
Many religious leaders and figureheads are diametrically opposed to the idea that a band can praise the Lord through metallic, aggressive music.
"Religious leaders who don't believe that we can't praise the Lord through heavy music? That's weird to think about. What does that even mean? Like we aren't allowed to by God or by them?" That was the reaction from Sleeping Giant vocalist Tom Green. Answering a question with a question usually means the initial question is confounding and in this case, it sure is! Who is to say how one can worship?
Green also told Noisecreep, "I was under the impression that, in the Bible, it says that whatever we do, whether in word or deed, we should do for the glory and honor and praise of Jesus," Green said. "So I'm wondering which Bible they are reading? I know they mean well, but it is just fear and the spirit of religion that masquerades as discipline and 'righteousness.' No one likes new stuff and they prefer old ways." Speaking of 'new stuff,' Sleeping Giant are serious about their musical ministry and are about to release 'Sons of Thunder,' via Facedown, on June 23.
Green does refer to scriptures in his lyrics, but that won't prevent secular fans from moshing till they tear holes in the soles of their Chuck Taylors. "I experience and get to know God more when I spend time meditating and thinking about the written word," the screamer said. "It plays a primary role in my writing because I try to get a the Bible in my brain as much as possible and it comes out in my lyrics. It happens on accident, I swear. Just kidding."
Ultimately, Sleeping Giant, through the vehicle of utterly feral music, aim to show love to their fellow men. "We love people based not on what they do or don't do. Otherwise all of us would be in trouble, you know? God doesn't hate people, so we don't either." Green said.
