Amplifier Worship: Weedeater, Ancestors, Foo Fighters, Queens of the Stone Age
QUEENS OF THE ZEPPELIN FIGHTERS: Dave Grohl (Foo Fighters), Josh Homme (Queens of the Stone Age) and John Paul Jones (Led Zeppelin, duh) are reportedly collaborating, as we speak, on a new, still-unnamed project together. Confirmation of the collab was leaked by Homme's wife Brody Dalle (Spinnerette). "I'm not at liberty to talk about it," she said in an interview with Antiquiet, but it's "pretty f---ing amazing [...] Just beats and sounds like you've never heard before!" It will be great to have Grohl and Homme back together for the first time since Queens' rock-solid 2002 release 'Songs for the Deaf,' but it's anyone's guess what the former Led Zeppelin guitarist will bring to the table.WHO SAYS WEED MAKES YOU UNMOTIVATED: 'Dixie' Dave and his band of merry men, better known as Weedeater (also known as 'the sludge band that covered Skynyrd's "Gimme Back My Bullets"'), have been tapped to support NOLA sludge kings Down on a massive North American tour that also involves Voivod, The Melvins, Danava, and Evil Army on select dates. The dates with Down account for only part of some fifty shows that Weedeater has booked for the summer / fall, talk about a hard-working band. Perhaps they're trying to make up for that time they canceled their tour with Today is the Day.
COMMON ANCESTRY: LA's Ancestors are back this year with a new record, 'Of Sound Mind,' which will hit stores on October 8 via Tee Pee. The album, which is the followup to the quintet's 2008 debut, 'Neptune With Fire,' is an eight-part opus that was recorded, mixed, and mastered by Pete Lyman (The Mars Volta, No Age) and includes contributions from David Scott Stone (The Melvins, Unwound, Big Business), Sera Timms (Black Math Horseman), and cellist Ramiro Zapata. Fans of Pink Floyd, King Crimson, and Neurosis would do well to pick this one up.
