Slipknot, Mastodon and Metallica All Win Big at London's Kerrang! Awards
Slipknot are without question one of metal's biggest bands. They have amassed an army of fans rivaling that of KISS, and those fans – affectionately dubbed 'Maggots' by the band – are fiercely loyal. It was almost a year ago that they helped Slipknot defeat rapper The Game for Billboard's coveted sales crown. And now, the masked metallers' ten-year run of dominance continues following Monday night's Kerrang! awards in London.According to reports, the best thing to come out of Iowa since potatoes were honored as the best international band and best live act, and frontman Corey Taylor called the wins vindication, because the 'Knot have "had to fight against controversy and misconception" since forming more than ten years ago.
"I can't think of many bands that have worked harder, and it really feels good that people are starting to turn around and really see what we're about and appreciating it for what it is," Taylor added.
But Slipknot weren't the only winners. Metallica's Rick Rubin-helmed 'Death Magnetic' LP was named best album by the readers of one of the U.K.'s longest-standing metal and rock magazines. Meanwhile, Mastodon's "Oblivion" clip took the prize for best video. Alice in Chains were handed the Kerrang! icon award, while Machine Head picked up the mag's inspiration award.
Limp Bizkit, a recent target of Machine Head and Lamb of God, were inducted into the magazine's hall of fame, joining the like of Iron Maiden and Judas Priest.
Linkin Park were even honored with the classic songwriter award, while local boys Bullet for My Valentine won their second Kerrang! award for best British band.
