Kylesa Jam to Kyuss While on the Road

Kylesa are known as one of the hardest-working bands in underground extreme music. It seems like the Savannah, Ga.-based quintet (that includes not one, but two drummers, mind you) is on the road more often than not. And on top of that, every Kylesa album seems better than the last. Their recently-released 'Static Tensions' tops everything the band has done before.

Currently, the band is gearing up for a 23-date run through the South and Texas to the West Coast, Northwest and back through the Midwest. Roughly the first half of the tour will be alongside Brooklyn's Tombs, who've been making waves in the extreme underground themselves lately, and Bison BC. In Los Angeles, Kylesa will join up with Saviours and then boogie-booze rockers Red Fang tag along for the last few dates.

Given their penchant for non-stop touring, we just had to find out what makes them tick on the road. So, we asked vocalist / guitarist Laura Pleasants to answer a few simple questions.

What are the five essential things you can't live without on the road?

Toothbrush, camera, iPod, soap, plenty of socks and underwear.

What are your top three favorite driving albums?

Kyuss 'Welcome to Sky Valley'; DJ Shadow 'The Private Press'; Judas Priest 'Rocka Rolla.'

Van or bus?

Vus.

Best tour food?

Zorro in Leipzig, Germany.

What's the most memorable show you've ever played?

It's hard to say, as there have been many. Most recently, I'd say Greece at the Rockwave Festival. I've been wanting to go to Greece since the band started, and I couldn't believe it was actually happening. We played in the afternoon in front of a beautiful mountain and a bunch of enthusiastic metalheads. We were with some of our friends who were also playing. It was a killer feeling.
