Methods of Mayhem Want Your Help for New Album

Methods of Mayhem are calling out to the world to help them record their next album. Tommy Lee, who fronts the band, is asking fans and anyone else who wants to get in on the action to collaborate remotely on isolated instrument tracks. The resulting album, 'Public Mayhem,' is slated for release sometime in early 2010.

"This is a dream come true project, where I get to play with the entire world's creativity and add it to mine. That will produce something truly mind-blowing and amazing," Lee said in a statement issued by Roadrunner Records.

Beginning Oct. 5, isolated instrument tracks -- or stems as they are called -- will be posted on The Public Record in various formats, including RiffWorks, WAV, Logic, GarageBand, Pro Tools and the Four Track 3.0 iPhone application. You can then downloads the stems and add your own ideas, from original tracks to mixes and arrangements.

"The original Methods of Mayhem project that we did 10 years ago was a collaboration with some of the biggest artists of the day," producer Scott Humphrey (Mötley Crüe, Rob Zombie, the Crystal Method) said in the same statement. "The 'Public Mayhem' project is a collaboration with the entire world."

The eponymously-titled Methods of Mayhem debut dropped in 1999, and featured Snoop Dogg, Kid Rock and Fred Durst, among others.

After 'Public Mayhem' launches, there will be updates and even featured submissions on The Public Record. Participants will also get the chance to play with Methods of Mayhem at an album release show, although details are not yet available. An undisclosed sum on behalf of the participants will be made to the MusiCares Foundation, which provides healthcare, human services and addiction recovery for musicians and industry personnel in need.
