Rob Halford's Metal God Apparel Hits Stores
Some say Rob Halford invented the heavy metal style, and the time has finally come to get the goods. After announcing the launch of Metal God Apparel three months ago, the legendary Judas Priest frontman previewed his new collection in downtown New York on Wednesday. "The imagery is simply an extension of what I do with my music," Halford told Fashion Wire Daily.Holding the event at a hotel in the East Village, DJ Lady Starlight was in attendance. She's a staple to the downtown metal community, writing a fashion and music blog that focuses on heavy metal's history and producing a podcast on Americal Apparel's internet radio.
One of the many believers in Halford as the pioneer of heavy metal fashion, she says, "The biker and leather boy look Halford adopted for promoting 'Hell Bent For Leather' in 1978 became the look every metal band emulated going forward."
'Pray for Rock & Roll,' 'Eternal Chaos' and 'Never Again' are a few names Halford has given his designs, enhancing the ties between mythology, darkness and other epic images. His collection is currently up and available at the Metal God online shop.
