AM Conspiracy Want to Write Albums, Not Just Songs

AM Conspiracy frontman Jason 'Gong' Jones, formerly of Drowning Pool, is tired of bands that don't write albums -- they write singles. So his goal for his Orlando, Fla.-based act's self-titled debut record was to write an album that varied in sounds.

"It's 13 songs, all very different from each other," Jones told Noisecreep. "We try to mix it up and keep it going. We did it because a lot of records that have been coming out lately, in my opinion, sound like one long song. We try to steer away from that as far as possible. So it's got a good mixture of different emotions that hopefully it'll take people through. It has different kinds of music. Some stuff's real heavy. Some stuff's pretty light."

Jones, who called from the tattoo parlor in which he works, said he tried to emulate some of the bands that he listened to growing up such as the Doors, Led Zeppelin, Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, Alice in Chains, Tool and the Deftones. The album is due for release later this year on Burnhill Union Records.

"One long song bores me to death," Jones said. "I'm like, 'Are you kidding me? Come on.'"

For 'AM Conspiracy,' the band worked with knob-turner Chris Wisco, a producer whom, Jones said, understood the group.

"We actually got the tones we were looking for," Jones said. "He's just really good with harmonies and stuff. We got more old-school tones to where it doesn't sound so processed, like everything today does. Everything's so edited and really dry as far as tones go."
