For Glamster Robin Black, Mixed Martial Arts Is a Lifesaver
When you think glam, mixed martial arts probably isn't the first thing that comes to mind. That is, unless you're a fan of Robin Black -- both the lead singer and the band of the same name.Black was living the rock life de rigueur: drunk for days mixed with some drugs for good measure. Of course, he didn't start life that way. In a recent interview, Black opens up about his addictions and path to recovery. That path, of course, was mixed martial arts -- and a seizure.
The latter is what caused Black to wake up and realize life might not be all parties and groupies. "I had a seizure," Black recounts. "... On the couch of someone I barely knew while I was doing strange stuff."
So, at 38 years young, Black decided it was time for change. Back to martial arts like when he was kid, Black re-immersed himself into the sport, first commentating on Canadian television and then later back in the ring. It's not a fairy-tale ending, though. Black hasn't won every match, and he isn't done with music altogether.
"That rush of performing, I get that now training and fighting," Black further explains. "I miss performing in front of a crowd, but I still am, just in a different way. I just want them to know this is the real me, and I'm giving all of myself to this sport."
