'Sweet Child O' Mine' Turns Folk, Evokes Holiday Emotions
When you think holiday tunes, the Guns N' Roses classic 'Sweet Child O' Mine' probably isn't exactly at the top of your list.British retailer John Lewis will be using the tune to remind holiday shoppers of childhood. Adam & Eve is the ad agency behind the campaign, saying the song "captures the innocent excitement of childhood in a very poignant way." The commercial features kids playing with adult gifts. The kids eventually morph into adults as the ad progresses.
This campaign marks the first time that Guns N' Roses has allowed songs for use in a UK advertisement. Instead of Slash's famous blaring riffs we all know and love, 'Sweet Child O' Mine' is being rerecorded by the folk band Taken by Trees.
The 70-second ad debuts this Sunday.
