Soilwork Drummer Dirk Verbeuren -- Your iPod Is Showing

"Except for some poppy radio fare like Lady Gaga, Prince or Björk, or anything by J.K. Broadrick, this is a perfect blend of what I blast in my headphones or car stereo," Soilwork drummer Dirk Verbeuren tells Noisecreep regarding the list of songs he submitted for 'Your iPod Is Showing.'
Even without Lady Gaga, Verbeuren's list is refreshingly eclectic, with songs ranging from immensely popular to totally obscure. Naturally there's a bunch of death metal (Obituary, Torture Division, the Cleansing), some grindcore (Napalm Death, Nasum) and thrash (Metallica, Slayer). But what really surprised us about Verbeuren's random shuffle inclusion of old-school hip-hop from LL Cool J and Run-DMC.
"I've been big into rap and hip-hop since I turned 11," Verbeuren says. "One of my dad's coworkers bought me the Beastie Boys' 'Licensed To Ill' for my birthday, and I think I played it daily for two years."
Another small surprise from the drummer's iPod is the abundance of electronic music, from the dark ambient tones of Lustmord to the experimental electronica of Squarepusher, Autechre and Apex Twin."
"Electronic and ambient music is a real passion of mine," Verbeuren says. "I'm glad that stuff made the cut. Throw in a little jazz insanity like John Zorn & Masada and you got all the ingredients that make me trip."
