Carnifex Aren't Against the Deathcore Tag

Ask a band what their music sounds like and nine times out of 10, they won't want to use a 'label' or 'genrify' their sound. Bands eschew categorization, that's for sure.

Southern California's Carnifex aren't one of those bands thumbing their noses at markers or tags when it comes to their music. The band will release its next effort for Victory in March, and vocalist Scott Lewis told Noisecreep that the new tunes "are modern death metal or deathcore-type sound. We are combining the sound of older bands like Suffocation and Dying Fetus and Behemoth, with our own twist on it. 'Deathcore' is just a genre name, and it doesn't bother me. It's fairly descriptive and accurate for a lot of bands, since it means you combine death metal and metalcore or hardcore."

As for what separates Carnifex from other deathcorists? "We don't pull too much from hardcore or metalcore," Lewis said. "But it doesn't bother us one way or another if people label us as that."
