Nachtmystium Recording Album With New Rhythm Section

Chicago's finest (some might even say America's finest) black metallers, Nachtmystium, recently entered Semaphore Recording Studio to record 'Addicts: Black Meddle Pt. 2,' the follow-up to 2008's 'Assassins: Black Meddle Pt. 1.' Noisecreep caught up with engineer Sanford Parker (Pelican, Samothrace, Unearthly Trance) to get the inside scoop.

For the recording of 'Addicts,' Nachtmystium's "rhythm section is composed of Jeff Whitehead on drums and Will Lindsay on bass," explained Parker. That's an entirely different rhythm section from the one that recorded the much-lauded 'Assassins,' but most would agree that it's not an unwelcome change: Whitehead, better known as Wrest, is well-known for his work as one-man black metal machine Leviathan, and his percussion prowess is not to be trifled with. And Lindsay has done time in bands as varied as Middian, Wolves in the Throneroom and Indian.

"Jeff Wilson [is handling] rhythm guitar and, of course, Blake Judd is [handling] lead guitar and vocals," continued Parker. "Chris Black and myself are on hand for production, moral support and, of course, making sure no one dies. No one has yet.

"So far we have recorded all of the drums, bass and rhythm guitar for 10 songs. We decided to book the studio in two blocks, each being a week long with a week off in between. During our time apart, Whitehead has flown back to Oakland, Lindsay is drinking his dad's moonshine and listening to Hank Williams records, Wilson is off being surly somewhere, Judd is in the Southeast chasing girls, Black should be coming up with vocal ideas, and I start [work on] the new Lair of the Minotaur record. We reunite Jan. 21 to continue our booze- and bacon-fueled journey."
