Guns N' Roses Play Surprise Gig in New York at Former Site of CBGB
Earlier this week, Axl Rose took to Guns N' Roses' Twitter page to hint that some "surprise gigs" would be imminent, and there was some speculation Feb. 11 morning that GN'R would be invading a bar in New York City to play an acoustic set as part of Fashion Week. And the rumors were partially accurate: Guns did play an acoustic set in New York Thursday night, but not in a bar.Instead, according to reports, Axl and company took over the showroom of designer John Varvatos during a private party. Of course, Varvatos' showroom occupies the space that formerly housed legendary punk rock mecca CBGB.
The band's set ran 17 songs, and they kicked things off with 'You're Crazy.' GN'R dusted off classics like 'Mr. Brownstone,' 'I Used to Love Her,' 'It's So Easy,' 'Rocket Queen' and 'Welcome to the Jungle.' After 'My Michelle' and 'Knockin' On Heaven's Door,' Guns covered AC/DC's 'Whole Lotta Rosie,' then performed 'Paradise City.' The set ended with a three-song encore of 'Sweet Child O' Mine,' 'This I Love' and 'Nighttrain.'
Guns N' Roses, fresh from a Canadian tour in support of 'Chinese Democracy,' will be performing in South America this March.
