DragonForce Parts Ways With Singer ZP Theart

Two years after the release of the band's most recent LP, 2008's 'Ultra Beatdown,' British extreme power metallers DragonForce have revealed they're now down a man, following the recent departure of frontman ZP Theart. The band confirmed rumors of Theart's exodus in a posting to their Web site.

"It is with great regret that DragonForce announce a parting of the ways with singer ZP Theart," the band says in a statement. "This is due to insurmountable differences of musical opinion but the rest of the band sincerely wishes ZP great success with his future projects. While the creative core members have begun writing the fifth album, they have also started a worldwide search for a new vocalist."

DragonForce, whose digit-straining tracks often stumble players of 'Guitar Hero,' have experienced something of a mercurial rise since forming in 1999. The band played Ozzfest's main stage in 2006, where their onstage antics won them scores of new fans. 'Ultra Beatdown' sold more than 24,000 units during its initial week of release, to open at 18 on the Billboard Top 200.

"We are looking for a powerful, melodic singer to write a new chapter of DragonForce with us," says guitarist Herman Li. Those interested in auditioning for the vacant opening can get more information through the band's Web site.

ZP is probably going to Power Quest now. I am interested to hear the result of all this... though DragonForce will never be the same without ZP. The story continues...
