Alice in Chains, Stone Temple Pilots Booked for D.C. Chili Cook-Off

On May 22, two of man's greatest creations -- chili and rock 'n' roll -- will come together for a good cause in Washington, D.C. According to reports, Alice in Chains and Stone Temple Pilots will anchor this year's 31st annual DC101 Chili Cook-Off Rock Festival fundraiser. All proceeds from the event, which will overtake RFK Stadium, will benefit the National Kidney Foundation.
Long considered D.C.'s largest one-day rock festival, the event's organizers expect this year's cook-off and concert will raise at least $1.6 million for the Kidney Foundation. Last year's concert drew a crowd of more than 30,000 and helped raise $1.5 million for the cause.
"The Chili Cook-Off is a significant fundraiser that helps support programs such as research that leads to medical breakthroughs, our patient emergency fund and free early detection screenings for at-risk members of our community," said Preston Englert, division president of the National Kidney Foundation. "This is crucial because the Washington, D.C. area leads the nation in the prevalence of kidney disease."
Cage the Elephant, Switchfoot and Anberlin are also on the Cook-Off bill. As for the grub, 101 contestants will be showing off their best chili recipe and compete in four categories. Tickets for the event will go on sale March 26.
