What Would Young Phil Anselmo Say to an Older Phil Anselmo?

Phil AnselmoPhi Anselmo has had a genre-defining career, from his work in Pantera to Down to Superjoint Ritual to Arson Anthem. He's lived a life that most musicians and metal fans would kill to have and he has been a voice of a metal generation, but he hasn't been without his painful moments.

He died for a few minutes in 1996. He lost his beloved guitarist Dimebag Darrell in 2004. He has been dealing with a bad back for most of his adult life. So what would the young Anelmo say to the current Anselmo and vice versa, without and with the benefit of experience?

"There would be some bitterness there," Anselmo told Noisecreep. "The young one would tell the old one you should have took care of your core. Maybe you should have not done that hundredth jump off the jump riser that did you in. You should have been kinder to your body to a point where ... you educated yourself a little more about medicines and the evils of the medicines if you abuse them, because when you are younger, you don't know what's right or wrong, so you make the mistake."

As for the now version of Anselmo? "The old Philip telling the young Philip would be me saying, 'Son, every day of your life, do your sit ups. Be as physical as possible, brace up before you land and don't be too f---ing drunk when you're jumping. If you are all loose, you might land wrong but at the time, you won't feel it, so wake up son."

Anselmo remains busy with his newly relaunched Housecore Records label.
