Candlemass, 'Ashes to Ashes' -- New Album and DVD

Legendary Swedish doom metal band Candlemass -- whose 1986 debut 'Epicus Doomicus Metallicus' and 1987 follow-up 'Nightfall' are essential listening for fans of lumbering post-Black Sabbath metal -- are releasing the live DVD and CD package, 'Ashes to Ashes,' on June 29.
The DVD features two complete shows: one from 2009's Sweden Rock festival and the other from a concert in Athens, Greece the same year. The Sweden show will also be available on CD. The DVD will feature an in-depth band interview alongside lots of behind-the-scenes footage.
'Ashes to Ashes' is Candlemass' fourth DVD, but the first with vocalist Robert Lowe, who replaced Messiah Marcolin in 2006. The package is also the first to feature live material from the band's last two albums, 2007's 'King of the Grey Islands' and 2009's 'Death Magic Doom.' In addition, the DVD will include classics like 'Samarithan,' 'At the Gallows End' and 'Solitude.'
Since their formation in Stockholm, Sweden in 1985, Candlemass have recorded 10 studio albums, though the band broke up between 1993 and 1998 and between 1999 and 2004. During their career, the band has been through five vocalists and almost a dozen other members, but three of their four current members played with the band in the late '80s, including bassist, founder and original vocalist Leif Edling.
