Slipknot Bassist Paul Gray Dead at 38

Slipknot bassist Paul Dedrick Gray was found dead this morning at 10:50 AM CT at the TownePlace Suites in Urbandale, Iowa, police have confirmed. He was 38.

A hotel employee found Gray's body after receiving a call from his mother asking them to check Gray's room. "They checked the room and found him deceased inside," officer Dave Disney of the Urbandale Police Department told Noisecreep. Gray was alone in the room and there was no disturbance and no evidence of foul play. Police added that Gray had been dead for several hours before his body was discovered. Police are awaiting the results of toxicology tests, which could take up to four to six weeks to come back.

Gray is survived by his pregnant wife Brenna and his mother.

The bassist had checked into the hotel on May 22 and had received no complaints during his stay. "He was a quiet and respectful guest," hotel spokesman Chris Diebel told Noisecreep.

An autopsy will be conducted tomorrow to determine the cause of death.

Gray, who was one of the primary songwriters in the band, planted the seeds of Slipknot in 1992 with drummer Shawn Crahan. After Joey Jordison took over on drums, Crahan moved to percussion, and on Oct. 31, 1995 Slipknot released their first demo 'Mate.Feed.Kill.Repeat.' After replacing original vocalist Anders Colsefini with Corey Taylor, the band secured a record deal with Roadrunner and wrote their self-titled album, which was produced by Ross Robinson and released in 1999.

Since then, the band has released three commercially successful albums, including 2008's 'All Hope Is Gone.'

i dont like sliptknot tht much but i pay my respects to paul and he knows all his fans love him and he loves us also too.In better peace to him and his unborn child.

No i am not a big fan of country music, I like most any kind of music, I was a hard a-- rock kinda person for a long time. I still like to have a good nite out with friends. yes I may have been a little harsh on a dead person sorry but I have my opinion and that is what this is all about so like "him" if you dont know me then dont judge!

What i don't appreciate is how people sit there and say he's going to burn in hell. I'm a strong believer in jesus! i have friends that doesn't believe in god. And i think that it's wrong for people to post things on THE WEB SAYING HE"S IN HELL!! it's rude and disrespectful! show some respect for his wife, and his poor family, and slipknot thereself. He could have turned his life around on drugs! show some respect! that's what happend's to some people who get out in the real world. And those who had a problem with the kids listening to them it was your problem in the first place for letting them listen to them! kid's and teens can't help that they like them! And there's many kids and teen's and parent's that are heart broken for this that wen't on so grow some respect for the one's who are dearly hurt! And obviously you must believe in god if your going to sit there and call him demanic! or w.e you did! God said Don't judge so if any one is pretty sick it's you sweet hearT!!!

All this talk about "respect" and faggot this and a-hole that,sounds like to me anyone who uses all this profanity really doesn't know how to express themselves without using this type of offensive language. Have some "respect" for those who are "alive" as well as the person who has just died or anyone for that matter. And if someone says something you don't agree with just condemned them to death or wish something bad on them? I think you really need to step back and really evaluate your dark heart. Can you say that you matter when YOU look in the mirror? Sicko.

Before anyone judges the person for his looks. Listen to their music. I thought they were just another gimmick band because of their look but found out they really are a great band. Think of the music we will never be able to hear now that he is gone. The band may go on but it won't be the same. RIP; however you died is not important but how you lived that will always be remembered.

Paul really was one of the few inspirations i had in my life for a long time and no he wasn't a drug addict. I had the rare and distinct honor of befriending him and its a shame that people mock his death. It only goes to show what scum really lie behind their keyboards to speak of such a great man that way. Rest in peace my friend.
