Mushroomhead, 'Beautiful Stories for Ugly Children' -- New Album

While Slipknot remain in limbo, fans of aggressive masked metal bands might take solace in knowing that Mushroomhead will release their seventh album, 'Beautiful Stories for Ugly Children,' on Sept. 28 from Megaforce Records.

The album, the follow-up to 2006's 'Savior Sorrow,' was produced by co-founding drummer Steve 'Skinny' Felton and mastered by Roger Lian at Masterdisc in New York City. The original title of 'Beautiful Stories for Ugly Children' was 'Slaughterhouse Road,' but the band recently changed it.

The first single, 'Come On,' will debut on rock radio in August. "This [song] is going to surprise people by being very melodic, yet with a crushing undertone," said Felton. "It feels really good this time around. The album is less ambient and heavier, yet retains that creepy Mushroomhead dynamic."

Added keyboardist Schmotz: "Mushroomhead never draws a line without blurring it first."

Well, it's about time. People have been waiting for this for well over a year when they first announced a new album. Love the new album title. To whom it may concern: Everyone needs to stop choosing sides (SlipKnot or Mushroomhead) They're both great. And the story is this: Slipknot took the "crappy" record deal in '98 when MH turned it down. (Not so crappy now, is it?) Slipknot did not rip MH off. Yes, MH has been around since '93, and Slipknot since '95. Oh, you didn't know that? Yes!!!! Slipknot is NOT a manufactured band that sprung up out of nowhere. They were playing local shows in '95. So no, they did not rip off MH, they just happened to exist as well. Though I love MH, they need to stop being so petty about this, and yes, Slipknot's music is better, but they're both great. Beautiful stories for ugly children is a great, and kinda funny title, and Slipknot's "Vol 3: The Subliminal Verses" is also a great title. Mushroomhead needs to LET IT GO. It's their own fault. They had another big break in 2003 with XIII, with a major label and they walked away from that, too. Maybe they should make up their minds. They obviously don't want to be a multi-national touring band, which is fine. I'm from MI so they come here atleast 10 times a year. (3 or 4 times between now and December.) Fine by me. But it's their fault for walking away from big breaks that they didn't like. Slipknot stuck it out through the rough first few months of being on a major label, and now every one of their albums is ATLEAST platinum. Mushroomhead should've stuck out their 2003 XIII record deal so their music could be more recognized. In closing: No one ripped anyone off, Slipknot is not a record label manufactured band (been around since '95!!!) and I can't wait to hear the new Mushroomhead album. The new masks are insanely awesome.
