Eldebrock, 'Release Me' -- Song Premiere
Owen Bannerman
"We were in the process of recording a song called 'Bad Decisions,' but it just wasn't sounding right, so we left it for the day and moved on," Wegenast told Noisecreep about the evolution of the song, which appears on their self-titled album, due out Sept. 14.
Wegenast continued, "It was bugging me and I knew it wasn't going to come out how we wanted it to. I went to bed that night thinking of different melodies when one stuck in my head. I didn't want to forget it, so I got up and played it on guitar over and over. I wanted to record it, but didn't have anything to record it with. So I got out my cell phone and recorded it using the 'voice memo' tool and went to bed. The next morning, I wrote some lyrics and came up with some chords on the acoustic. I took the song to the studio and played an acoustic version for everyone."
'Release Me' meant that 'Bad Decisions' was scrapped, but it was a wise, not a 'bad' decision -- pun intended. "The actual recording on the cell phone became the intro and outro to 'Release Me,'" Wegenast said.
