Oceano Singer: 'I Didn't Get Into Music Until I Was 15'

Music may be the driving force in Oceano singer Adam Warren's life right now, but it wasn't always this way. The singer didn't get into music until he was around 15. "I never listened to music at all," Warren told Noisecreep. "I had a block. I didn't get it at first, and I didn't get into music until I was 15 or something. I am fresher to it than people who grew up with old stuff. I have more new school tastes, because that's what I was exposed to at first."

Warren cops to having been shy much of his life, but now he can't be; he is the face of the band, after all. "I guess had to get comfortable with it," he said. "I started to take music seriously in college. I was sort of shy, so when the band forced me to open up, I came out of the shell. It's not so much being onstage, performing. That was easy for me from the get go -- being in the open, having people watch me do something."

It was the offstage component that really got him in the beginning. "The part that was the challenge was interacting with people who are fans. When people come up to you to express that they love what you are doing and you are shy, they might think you're an ass because you react quietly, but it's just about coming out of the shell."

Warren also had very publicized pro-wrestling aspirations before switching career gears. He even took part in a backyard wrestling federation and cites Stone Cold Steve Austin and current UFC champ Brock Lesnar as faves from his WWE glory days. "Lesnar is humongous," Warren said. "It's unreal how big he is to everyone else. And now he is in UFC, whooping people, and I like him even more. He is such a dick, and that's what I like."

Oceano's 'Contagion' is out Nov. 9 via Earache. The band's headlining Contagion Across the Nation trek will run for four weeks.
