Samael, 'Antigod' -- Killer Song Lyrics
Nuclear Blast Records
As you can guess from the title of Swiss band Samael's first single, 'Antigod,' off of their as-yet-unnamed new album, the band doesn't think too highly of religious belief. "This is obviously a song against religion; I mean religion of any form," guitarist/vocalist Vorph told Noisecreep. "The song title makes no ambiguity about the content of the lyrics, and it resumes well the ideas they promote."
In Samael's 20-plus years as a metal band, they've naturally touched upon the topic previously. "We wrote about that topic in the past but as we moved away from this we thought the world would end up catching with us," Vorph explained. "It's not that we were leading the way but we thought with time things will go towards a more secular and enlighten[ed] society, and that is where we were heading at.
"Taking into account the recent years," Vorph said of the general progress of humanity, "we have to acknowledge not only the fact that stagnation still prevails but the tendency is actually opposed to any progress in the 'right' direction so we felt the need to make an uncompromised and radical statement."
Samael will be on a European tour well into December. Their new album is scheduled to be release sometime in 2011.
