Bury Your Dead's Myke Terry to Continue Working as Independent Artist
Terry's statement said that his exit from the band was born of "stalled contract negotiations" between Bury Your Dead founder/guitarist Slim and Mediaskare Records, the label that was planning to release the new BYD album.
Terry's management team felt that these negotiation issues were not in their client's best interest. Ultimately, Mediaskare made some sort of an executive decision and hired former BYD vocalist (and fan favorite) Mat Bruso to come in and finish the record. Whether or not Mediaskare had the power to enact or even strongarm such authority remains a point of debate.
There is, however, a pitcher of lemonade being made from this lemon. Terry's sudden exit allows him to focus on his solo efforts, which will boast his songwriting skills and musical talents both within and beyond the hard rock genre that Bury Your Dead traffic in.
"After spending over three years with Bury Your Dead, becoming a family, and almost losing our lives together, I would think that we would all have each other's backs better than this," Terry said in a statement. "I never thought someone who hadn't sweat, bled or cried with us would have the power to dictate the inner workings of our band.
"I'd like to thank everyone that bought a Bury Your Dead CD, came to a show, or played with us for making the past few years of my life so amazing and I look forward to my future as a solo artist. I'm sure everyone who has ever chanted 'bring back Bruso' is now stoked for his return."
While on one hand, it really sucks for Terry to have had to exit in this manner, fans of Bruso will probably be stoked about his return, as Terry eloquently put it.
