Overcome Get Biblical in 'The Great Campaign of Sabotage' -- Album Art of the Week

Noisecreep last talked to Dave Quiggle when 'Atrocities' from Take It Back! was released. Now that metalcore giants and labelmates Overcome are releasing a new album after reuniting, Quiggle was the default designer for the artwork. "The title of the Overcome album is 'The Great Campaign of Sabotage,'" Quiggle told Noisecreep, "which is taken from a quote from C.S. Lewis."

Lewis is probably best known for his 'Narnia' series of books, but he is also highly-respected as a religious scholar and Christian thinker, which is the side of Lewis this quote comes from: "Enemy-occupied territory -- that is what this world is. Christianity is the story of how the rightful king has landed, you might say landed in disguise, and is calling us all to take part in a great campaign of sabotage."

Quiggle found inspiration for the albuma art in Overcome's appropriation of the line. "I immediately thought about displaying the world as an old factory pumping out toxins," Quiggle explained. "A machine that is beyond being dismantled by anything other than something much stronger than itself. I made a barely visible bit of green sky to reflect a poisoned world."

Amid the chaos of the falling factory bricks is the calm presence of a lamb, which is used in Biblical literature as a symbol for Jesus. "I wanted the lamb to be small, powerful and at the foundation of the building, destroying the structure. It's a simple metaphor, but I think the simpler it is the more iconic it can become and the easier the point can be made."

'The Great Campaign of Sabotage,' Overcome's fourth full-length, is out now.
