Hatebreed's Jamey Jasta to Release Solo Album This Summer
Jeremy Saffer
Jamey Jasta is the hardest working man in hardcore. The Hatebreed and Kingdom of Sorrow vocalist will release his solo album, 'Jasta,' on July 26th via eOne. Jasta has been working on the project on and off for the last few years. It's a miracle Jasta has time to put out a record: the vocalist owns a label [Stillborn]; fronts another project [Icepick]; has his own apparel line [Hatewear]; and is a dad to a young daughter, so it's a small miracle that the record is even coming out.
Jasta discusses the project in a new promo video for the album. The singer says be began working on the material in 2009. Since it didn't stylistically fit into what Hatebreed or Kingdom of Sorrow did, he decided put it on as a solo project.
"It's different material and influences," Jasta says in the clip. "I am singing differently, writing different riffs." You can check out quick snippets of some of the songs at the end of the interview video.
The song 'Anthem of the Freedom Fighter' is less moshy than Hatebreed but still grooves enough to satisfy the most hardcore pit-dwellers. 'Mourn the Illusion' finds Jasta singing in a melodic fashion, not unlike Shadows Fall's Brian Fair. 'Heart of a Warrior' features skateboarding rocker Mike Vallely, while 'Something You Should Know' teams Jasta with All That Remains vocalist Phil LaBonte.
The other metal A-list guests on the record include As I Lay Dying vocalist Tim Lambesis, Lamb of God singer Randy Blythe and guitarist Mark Morton, and guitar deity Zakk Wylde, who just appeared on 'American Idol' last week.
Catch Kingdom of Sorrow, which also features Crowbar vocalist-guitarist Kirk Windstein, on this summer's Rock Star Energy Mayhem Fest.
