Attention doom metal fans! On Saturday, June 4th, Solitude Aeturnus and Wino (St. Vitus and The Obsessed) will headline the Doom in June II festival at the Cheyenne Saloon in Las Vegas. The complete festival lineup is 17 bands strong, with plenty of great acts for those looking for a healthy dose of doom.
Doom in June was launched by industry veteran Marco Barbieri, formerly of Century Media Records. Barbieri moved back to Vegas in 2007, at which point hestarted managing bands and promoting local shows. After booking a show for Gates of Slumber in the summer of 2010, Barbieri was inspired to build an entire festival around them.
"Since there weren't really any bands of that style in the Vegas area, I started looking in surrounding states. My excitement grew as I spoke to some bands, and I decided that I had the time to begin a unique all-day festival focusing on doom and stoner rock bands," Barbieri recently told Noisecreep. "The first edition featured 15 bands with some standout names like Fireball Ministry, Black Cobra, Slough Feg, Radio Moscow, Sasquatch, House of Broken Promises and the aforementioned Gates of Slumber. One of the things I tried to [do] was to showcase some younger, developing talent as well as [bigger names]."
"I thought 'Doom in June' was a catchy name for an annual fest and decided every first weekend in June you can look forward to 'Doom in June' kicking off the summer," he said. "I also wanted to do my part in encouraging people to vacation in Las Vegas, which was hard hit [in] recent years [by the] bad economy. [I'm] giving people another excuse to visit our awesome city."
Barbieri hopes to expand the fest to multiple days in years to come.
This year's fest brings in bands from the West Coast as well as Canada and Europe. Barbieri says fans can expect "a full day and a good mix of all things doom, stoner rock, and its variant off-shoots in a relaxed setting inside from the heat of the blistering Vegas sun. And there will be plenty of cold beer flowing."
Advance tickets are on sale now for $25.00 here.
