Slayer frontman and bassist Tom Araya is set to be honored with the key to the city of Vina del Mar, the Chilean town in which he was born nearly 50 years ago. Araya's 50th birthday is actually next week: the rocker came kicking and screaming into the world on June 6th, 1961, the significance of which is not lost on Noisecreep. Araya was born on 6/6/61. 666! How fitting.
Araya will receive the key to the city on Friday, June 3rd from mayor Virginia Reginato, just prior to Slayer's first-ever gig in the city.
Araya was born in Vina del Mar and resided there with his parents until he was five. The bassist plans to spend the weekend showing the city to his wife and his children.
Congrats to Araya on this huge honor. And of course, we'd like to extend wishes for a happy 50th! Happy birthday, Tom Araya.
