Main Man Records Responds to Runaways Tribute Album Lawsuit
TheRunaways.com
Ex-Runaways guitarist Joan Jett and vocalist Cherie Currie filed a lawsuit against Main Man Records last week in an attempt to block the release of 'Take It Or Leave It,' a tribute album to their former band. The track listing of the tribute featured the likes of Shonen Knife and New York Dolls' singer David Johansen, among many others. Jett and Currie said that Main Man and its staffers made claims that Jett supported the release and gave it her blessing, which she did not.
Main Man responded by claiming that all recordings on the album were donated by the bands "in tribute to a band that has influenced and entertained them all" and "with the hope of raising funds for cancer research." The label says that all the writers of the songs have been compensated, and that they are bummed that a charity album is considered something that would sully the images of Jett and Currie. The label plans to defend itself against the charges.
