Coheed and Cambria Part Ways With Bassist Michael Todd
Gino DePinto for AOL Music
When you nearly blow one of the biggest gigs of your band's career opening for Soundgarden by taking a cab to a local pharmacy, claiming to have a bomb on you and robbing the drug store to feed your oxycontin addiction, that's certainly grounds for dismissal. And that's (probably} what happened with Coheed and Cambria bassist Michael Todd, who pulled the aforementioned stunt last month in Massachusetts.
Co and Ca have announced that they are splitting with Todd, issuing a statement on the matter. While the band and the now ex-bassist claim it was a mutual decision, we're thinking that Todd was probably asked to make his exit as gracefully as possible. He robbed a pharmacy for drugs moments before he was due on stage, for God's sake!
The band's statement is as follows:
"After a lot of thought, introspection and discussion, Coheed and Cambria will be continuing our journey without bassist Michael Todd. We have spoken to him and this is a mutual decision between both parties. Michael was a great contributor; our hearts go out to his family and to all those who appreciate his talents.
We wish him nothing but the very best.
We are currently writing and recording songs for a new album, as well as a couple compilations this fall.
We are very excited about how the songs are shaping up and can't wait to share them with you.
We'd like to thank Wes Styles for filling in for the live gigs in the interim, including the upcoming South America and Mexico shows. A belated thanks to Rob Gill for covering in Boston; and the biggest thank you to all of you for your unwavering support.
A new chapter awaits.
Coheed and Cambria"
Todd remains in a heap of trouble over his attempted robbery and is due back in a court imminently.
