Deftones Guitarist Releases Sol Invicto Side Project EP for Free
Stephen Carpenter
Deftones' guitarist Stephen Carpenter has his famous hands in another project dubbed Sol Invicto, which released their debut EP 'Initium' for free this week. It's not lost on us that Carpenter's Deftones bandmate Chino Moreno released an EP by his Crosses †††
side project for free on Facebook recently, as well.
Sol Invicto, which is a cinematic drum and bass endeavor, features guest drummer Zach Hill of Hella and Team Sleep. Hill originally joined the project for the recording back in 2008 but due to various delays, the record was held back. Until now.
Sol Invicto will issue two more EPs over the next few months, with plans to record a proper full length debut in the works.
Producer Richie Londres told Noisecreep that giving the EP away from free was the best way to spread the word about the project on a viral, word of mouth, fan to fan level without relying on the project's pedigree. He said, "We decided the best way to introduce the project was directly to the fans and allow them to spread the word, that way we get to build the project on its own merits rather than just capitalize on the obvious connections. It's great to be able to play that card, no question, however Sol Invicto needs to stand on its own."
