Terrible Things Make It Work on Warped Tour - Exclusive Interview
Chris Epting
The Vans Warped Tour features something for just about everyone, from supergroups in luxurious band buses to up-and-comers in their rusted-out vans.
Somewhere in the middle are the journeymen artists; seasoned vets in the midst of redefining their careers and presenting new band ideas and music.
Terrible Things is a pop rock power trio comprised of several major bands. For instance, Singer/guitarist Fred Mascherino is of course a Taking Back Sunday veteran and drummer Josh Eppard was the original Coheed and Cambria drummer. And while the musicians have lived the touring high life, they have no problem today doing whatever it takes to stay on the road - except maybe a lot of the driving.
"Our driver actually quit five weeks into this Warped tour," Mascherino laughed backstage at the Carson, California Warped stop. "We're in a camper van that we bought so it's been a bit rough. I split the driving with our roadie which can be a little grueling. This is the fifth Warped tour for me and it's the most driving I've ever done."
Mascherino went on the explain how, some mornings after 12 hours of driving, he then goes to set up the band's merch tent before getting some sleep [the band typically plays afternoon sets on Warped]. Thus begins they're usual 13 hour day before packing up and heading to the next city.

"They take awesome care of us on this tour," he added. "But the travel and stuff is on us and as a singer I have to be careful to not get sick. If you're just a guitar player you can get sick and few will notice. We singers though have to be real careful. But this tour in particular has helped us a lot as a band and I know when we go back in to write songs, a lot of inspiration will come from the moments we've spent out here. Plus, we've seen all the competition out here so we know what we are up against."
Does he keep in touch with his former bandmates? "Taking Back Sunday has been a little weird for me. I've connected with some of the guys, but some of the guys I haven't."
