Anthrax Get Their Own Official Day in the Bronx on September 14
Matthew Rodgers
If you live in or near the Bronx, Sept. 14 is a big day for the New York City borough, and not just because Metallica, Megadeth, Slayer and Anthrax are steamrolling in for the Big 4 show at Yankee Stadium. Bronx Borough president Ruben Diaz Jr. has christened Sept. 14 as "Anthrax Day in the Bronx." Since drummer Charlie Benante, bassist Frank Bello and guitarist Rob Caggiano all hail from the Bronx, it's only fitting that the band have its own designated day! We wonder if they are going to get their own keys to city.
A little geographical history about your favorite members of Anthrax: Benante and Bello were raised in Throgs Neck, while Caggiano is a Pelham Parkway native.
"The Bronx may be known as the home of hip-hop and salsa, but make no mistake, our musical contributions are much more expansive. These heavy metal legends grew up right here in our borough, and I am proud to welcome Anthrax back to their Bronx home," said Diaz.
Move over J Lo. It's Anthrax from the block!
