Black Sabbath Celebration Coming to Birmingham, England?

Black Sabbath, a group whose name suggests an evil day of rest, may soon get its own day of worship. That's the word from Martin Mullaney, a council cabinet member for leisure, sport and culture in the pioneering metal band's hometown of Birmingham, England.

"I am fully behind a celebration for Black Sabbath and we will be talking about that," Mullaney said, according to the Birmingham Mail.

The day would mark the upcoming reunion of the group's original lineup, although drummer Bill Ward has indicated that contract disputes may prevent him from joining Ozzy Osbourne and the gang on a planned tour and comeback album.

While Birmingham is known as a tough-as-nails industrial city that helped birth heavy metal, it's also produced stars in other genres. To wit, Mullaney is considering some sort of monument on the site of the Rum Runner Club, a venue that once played host to pretty-boy popsters Duran Duran.
