GWAR, New Album: Costumed Rockers Begin Cutting 'Scratch Tracks'

GWAR have been through some hard times, what with last year's death of guitarist Cory Smoot, aka Flattus Maximus, but like the intergalactic barbarians they portray onstage, they shan't be defeated. Earlier today (March 6), singer Oderus Urungus took to Twitter to update fans on the band's new album.

"I'm not trying to get on Blabbermouth or anything, but today I will record my first official scratch tracks for our new record," tweeted the 43-billion-year-old devil-horned alien, or rather David Brockie, the dude who plays him, referencing the metal-news website his post quickly landed on.

No word yet on when the album -- GWAR's first since 2010 -- might be released, but in the meantime, the blood-spraying foam-rubber heroes will carry on this spring with their Return of the World Maggot Tour.

The second leg begins March 16 at the National Theater in Richmond, Va., where the outlandish crew will pay special tribute to Smoot. All proceeds from the event will benefit the Smoot Family Fund, a charity established for Smoot's widow and unborn child.
