"To Rush Limbaugh: Hey Jackass, stop using our music on your racist, misogynist, right wing clown show," Morello tweeted. "Sincerely, Rage Against the Machine."
Morello posted the same message on his Facebook page but the statement wasn't found on the band's official site.
According to Gigwise, Limbaugh used the song 'Sleep Now in the Fire' as a "bumper" on his Thursday program which caused Morello to tweet.
Along with Morello and Rush, singer Peter Gabriel also demanded his music be removed from Limbaugh's program earlier this week. "I am a real believer in the Freedom of Speech and would defend Rush Limbaugh's right to mouth off about almost anything," Gabriel wrote on Facebook Wednesday. "I just don't like my work being used as the bed track for prejudice or hatred." On Monday, Gabriel said he was "appalled to learn that his music was linked to Rush Limbaugh's extraordinary attack on Sandra Flute," the woman Limbaugh referred to as a "slut" last week on his program.
Although Morello's comments were generally well-received by fans, a few took to his Facebook page to reply negatively to his statement, including one person who wrote "Dear Rage Against the Machine, F--- you, I won't do what you tell me. Best, Rush," citing a lyric from the band's hit 'Killing in the Name.'
Rage Against the Machine performed at various festivals in 2010 and a lone show last July in Los Angeles as part of the L.A. Rising Festival. Morello, who performed with Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band last week on Jimmy Fallon, performs next week in Austin as part of SXSW before appearing at 'A Centennial Celebration of Woody Guthrie' in Chicago on May 19.
