Opeth Founder David Isberg Hospitalized in Sweden After Assault

Opeth founder David Isberg took to Facebook on Saturday (March 24) to update fans on his condition -- and it's not good. The Swedish metal singer is laid up in a Stockholm-area hospital after being assaulted on March 14. Authorities believe the brutal attack may have been connected with a brawl that began on a bus, Blabbermouth.net reports.

"For everyone still wondering, I was 12 days ago beaten real badly," Isberg wrote. "[The] only thing I was trying to do was walk home frome my work. [I am] now at [a] hospital. Enough said."

Isberg apparently was not involved in the brawl, and one of his alleged attackers, a 23-year-old man, has been picked up by police and charged with attempted manslaughter.

Isberg started Opeth in the fall of 1990, but quit the band in 1992. The group's name was derived from the word "Opet," taken from The Sunbird, a 1972 novel by author Wilbur Smith. In addition to fronting numerous bands, Isberg has made his name as DJ, spinning everything from electronic dance music to thrash.
