Dave Kushner, PusherJones: Velvet Revolver Guitarist Launches Cartoon Rock Band

Weeks after Damon Albarn announced that Gorillaz is likely done for, a new cartoon rock band has emerged to take their place. As Rolling Stone reports, Velvet Revolver guitarist Dave Kushner has joined forces with Dave Warren, creative director on "The Simpsons," to create PusherJones, an animated group that could spawn its own series.

Joining Kushner and Warren on the project are Scars on Broadway frontman Frankie Perez, Queens of the Stone Age drummer Joey Castillo and Weezer bassist Scott Shriner. The band's debut single, "Count Me Out," drops May 1 and is streaming now at Rolling Stone.

Kushner describes PusherJones' sound as a "cool riff-rock thing," citing Black Sabbath and Led Zeppelin as influences. In addition to the cartoon series he's shopping around, the guitarist is prepping an EP for release later this year and looking ahead to live shows and a possible full-length.

"That's the hope, that we can do that," Kushner said. "Who knows what Weezer, Queens of the Stone Age, or Velvet Revolver are going to do next? It's just a matter of getting everyone's schedules and ducks in a row."
