Young Guns Singer Gustav Wood on the UK Band's Plans to Invade America
BWR
The singer is on the phone with Noisecreep discussing the band's upcoming American debut tour opening for Seether. "America is obviously massive and the way rock radio is set up so differently, so it's daunting for a U.K. band to go play there for the first time, but we're thrilled! We're excited for the challenge."
Over the past few years, Wood -- who Kerrang! magazine recently named one of the "50 Greatest Rockstars In The World Today" -- and Young Guns have emerged as one of the U.K.'s brightest hopes for American domination. Their dynamic brand of alt-rock has clearly connected with a huge audience, finding the band playing to packed venues across Europe. They've even conquered the famed Reading Festival, where they performed as part of a lineup that included Queens of the Stone Age, Guns N' Roses and Modest Mouse.
Although they only recently signed a major record deal with the folks at Wind-up Records (Creed, Evanescence), Wood tells Noisecreep the band's grassroots approach has been paying off for the band this past year."Even though we hadn't played the States till this year, we've had a lot of people discover the band through Facebook and YouTube. I think social media has been huge for us in that way."
On Sept. 4, Wind-up Records will be releasing Bones, Young Guns' latest album, in the States. "Once we heard Bones and then saw Young Guns play live, we knew we had to bring this band to the U.S.," says Wind-Up CEO Edward Vetri. "They've built a very passionate fan base across the U.K. and we look forward to amplifying their success on this side of the pond."
"I've always dreamed about releasing a record in America and getting to tour here. I'm honored that Wind-up believes in us and our music. We hope everyone gives Bones a chance there and comes out to the shows," Wood tells Noisecreep. We have a feeling they will, Gustav.
