David Ellenburg Dead: Dogbane Guitarist Passes Away at Age 47

Dogbane guitarist David Ellenburg died last night (July 30) at the age of 47.

According to Dogbane's publicist, the veteran metal musician peacefully passed away, surrounded by family and close friends in North Carolina, due to complications of a severe stroke he had suffered last week.

Inspired by bands like Pentagram and Saint Vitus, Ellenburg co-founded Dogbane in North Carolina along with drummer Jerry Cloer in 2010. The group released its debut album, Residual Alcatraz, in late 2011.

Before Dogbane, Ellenburg was a founding member and co-creative force behind the long-lived cult metal act, Rictus Grin.

"Dogbane will eventually continue to forge ahead in his honor, as we feel this is what he would have wanted. We ask everyone to please respect the privacy of his family and the band, as we try to cope during this very difficult time," said Dogbane via their publicist.
