Jungle Rot's James Genenz: 5 Films That Have Most Inspired My Lyrics
Victory Records
Last year, Jungle Rot released their latest collection of gore and misery, Kill on Command. Featuring tracks like "Bloodties," "I Predict a Riot" and "Push Comes to Shove," the album is packed with the kind of violence-obsessed lyrics the metal community has come to expect from the combo.
In this Noisecreep feature, Jungle Rot bassist/lyricist James Genenz lists the five films that have most inspired his songwriting throughout the years.
Cannibal Holocaust (1980)

"This movie was the basis for our 2006 song, "Savage Rite." It's basically about cannibal tribes and their bizarre rites. I don't think there is a death metal band out there that hasn't been influenced by this movie in some way!"
Platoon (1986)

"Our song "Kill on Command" was based on this movie, particularly the My Lai massacre scene. Perfect film for any number of Jungle Rot lyrics to be penned to."
Dawn of the Dead (1978)

"This one has been an inspiration to many of my lyrics, be it bloodshed or social commentary. It's an obvious satirical shot at modern consumerist society and an all around damn good horror film. People are pretty much mindless zombies these days."
Full Metal Jacket (1987)

"Of course this is gonna pop up, haha! What more needs to be said? A great war film with an incredible commentary about the hypocrisy of government, military and belief. Many songs have been inspired by this film."
American Psycho (2000)

"Very well versed satire about American greed and material gain, a brutal indictment of yuppie culture in the '80s which carries over well into 2012. Fits well with some of the transgressional lyrics I've been writing lately."
