Motionless in White Tell Us Why They Are Obsessed With Halloween
Paul Brown
When it comes to Halloween, no band loves it more than metalcore giants Motionless in White. Frontman Chris Motionless even sports a 10-31 tattoo. For further proof of their Halloween fixation, check out the band's lyric video for "If It's Dead, We'll Kill It," which features clips from classic horror films.
Noisecreep thought it'd be fun to ask Motionless in White some Halloween-related questions, so settle in boys, girls and ghouls for some trick or treating with a band that is scary good.
Oh, as a bonus, Motionless in White has hooked us up with some Halloween-inspired band t-shirts to give away to three lucky readers. Read on for entry details!
Guys, have you always had a love of the holiday?
Ricky Horror (guitars): Ever since I was younger, there was always something so unique about Halloween that I found interesting. Maybe it was the candy that appealed to me back then, but as I got older and started really researching and understanding what the holiday is really about, it became more of a lifestyle than just a once a year deal.
Ghost (bass): I have always had an admiration for this holiday since I was a kid, I feel it has been a huge part of my life from that time to the present.
Angelo (drums): Yeah, Halloween is definitely a fun holiday and a time of the year I look forward to. It's right below Christmas for me.
What is it about Halloween that inspires you?
Ricky: The scary part. There are so many things about Halloween that play off of people's darkest fears, and I've always been really interested in seeing what makes people freak and why. There's a psychological aspect of it that has pretty much taken over the obvious ideas of the holiday for me.
Ghost: Halloween inspires me in endless ways. The realm of horror and fantasy have always held a strong interest as well as the whole history and idea behind Halloween, but the main attraction for the holiday to me is that it is the one day where the world comfortably celebrates the more eccentric and abnormal aspects of life. It's the one day of the year that the freaks of the world are not only accepted, but gladly welcomed.
What was your favorite costume you remember as a kid?
Ricky: When I was eight or nine, my parents bought me this soft sillicone-type skull mask that you had to paint yourself. Both of them spent so long painting it for me, and the mask ended up coming out looking so grungy and real that to this day, it's still my favorite thing I've ever worn. I've never seen anything like it since!
Ghost: I have always been a huge fan of pirates, I remember dressing as a pirate several times throughout my younger years.
Angelo: It would be a toss-up between The Terminator or The Riddler. The band did a Halloween show a couple years ago and we were all Mortal Kombat characters. I was Goro and it was awesome!
Do you decorate your homes?
Ricky: Like I said before, Halloween has become a lifestyle. My entire apartment is covered in weird, creepy shit. I have masks, skeletons, ouija boards, all sorts of scary art on the walls, taxidermy animals, and a shit load of candles. If the power were to go out, I'd have candle light for at least a month.
Ghost: My place is already decorated in a Halloween manner year round, so when October comes around that is the time to go decor shopping.
Angelo: We haven't been home the last couple halloweens so i never get a chance but my apartments walls and ceilings are completely black so it has a halloween/dark feel all year round.
What are your top 5 favorite villains?
Ricky: My #1 has to be Patrick Bateman in American Psycho
#2 The Joker in The Dark Knight
#3 Bela Lugosi as Dracula
#4 John Doe in SE7EN
#5 Pinhead in Hellraiser
Ghost: Dracula (Bela Lugosi), Maleficent, Cruella de Vil, Captain Hook (Dustin Hoffman), Sweeney Todd (Johnny Depp)!
Angelo: I think I'd have to just stick to the classics like Jason, Michael Myers, Freddy, Leatherface, and Bane.
