Axl Rose Discusses Writer's Block, '80s Thrashers to Reunite + More News
In an interview with USA Today earlier this week, Axl Rose discussed his bouts with writer's block in the past.
Referring to his former girlfriend, supermodel Stephanie Seymour, and original Guns N' Roses guitarist Slash and bassist Duff McKagan, Rose said "the did more damage to my ability as a writer. To those three, it was all crap. It beat me down so much. At the time of the (Use Your Illusion) tours, Slash and Duff said, 'You're an idiot, you're a loser.' I didn't write for years. I felt I was hindered for a very long time. I was also trying to figure out what I wanted to say, when it's right to be venting and when you're digging a bigger hole. Lyrics on Chinese took a long time."
When asked about Guns N' Roses' next studio album, the singer offered: "All the guys are writing, and we recorded a lot of songs over the years. We'll figure out what we feel best about. Chinesewas done in piecemeal with one person here and one there at different times. Appetite for Destruction was the only thing written with lyrics and melody fitting the guitar parts at the same time. After that, I got a barrage of guitar songs that I was supposed to put words to, and I don't know if that was the best thing for Guns. I do want to lean more toward lyrics and melody."
Guns N' Roses just kicked off a 4-week residency at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas. [Metal Sludge]
The Max Cavalera/Greg Puciato project has added Mastodon guitarist/vocalist Troy Sanders to the ranks. The project is still without a name, but it's long on high-profile, talented members. We can't wait to hear what these metal luminaries come up with. [Metal Insider]
Sacred Reich have been added to the Metal Blade Records 30th Anniversary show, set for Nov. 30 at the House of Blues in Hollywood. The band will perform a short set in between Gypsyhawk and Armored Saint. Even better, the set will serve as a pre-cursor and preview to the full show Sacred Reich that was recently announced for 2013. It will take place on Feb. 23, at the Key Club in Hollywood and it will be their first full show in Los Angeles in over 16 years! So it's been a while.
Vocalist/bassist Phil Rind said, "We are excited to be involved in Metal Blade's 30th Anniversary Celebration. Metal Blade were the first to offer us an opportunity on Metal Massacre 8, which led to a record deal and the release of Ignorance and Surf Nicaragua. Three of the best records ever Slayer's Hell Awaits, DRI's Dealing With It and COC's Animosity were all on Metal Blade. Brian Slagel was and still is a huge fan and advocate for metal! We are looking forward to saying thank you to Brian and everyone at Metal Blade in the best way possible, loud and fast!" [Via Press Release]
