Ex-Mötley Crüe Singer Reveals He's Done Trying to Befriend His Former Bandmates in New Interview

John Corabi was in Mötley Crüe for a minute. He replaced original frontman Vince Neil and it was doomed from the start. It was also actually more than a minute. The 53-year-old fronted the Sunset Strip legends from 1992-1997, before the group reunited with Neil.

In a chat with the Great Southern Brainfart, the singer admits he was not a fan of the Crue before taking the high-profile and high-pressure gig. But things went smoothly at first, as they penned "Hammered" and "Misunderstood" on the quick.

Despite spending five years in the Crue – was it really that long? It just feels like it was shorter- Corabi doesn't maintain regular contact with his former bandmates. And there's a good reason for it.

He confirmed that he left the band partially of his own accord, saying, "I just told the guys that I was so tired hearing about "Vince would do it this way..." I just told them, 'I'm so fucking sick and tired of hearing about what Vince would do from you and your management.' I was just sick of the guys comparing me to the guy that you told me for the last five years to not be. If you get hire for a job and your boss keeps talking about what great job the other guy did or compares you to the other guy, at some point, you just say, 'Fuck you. Go back to that person then.' I told them that if they wanted Vince and Vince was the fucking answer, maybe they should call him back and work shit out. If not, we should all just shut the fuck up and try and make this work."

After the split, Corabi reveals he was somewhat cut off, which he is sorta bummed about. Once he was out of the inner circle, he was O-U-T. He said, "I hung out with those guys every day for five years and I haven't seen them more than five times in the last 15 years. That bothered me more than anything. I thought those guys were my friends and that's what I miss more than anything. I was more bummed out over the loss of our brotherhood than anything. Those guys are just the kind of people that will embrace you when you're in their circle. They've had some many buzzards and vultures picking at their bones for the last 25 years that when they look down and they see me calling them, I bet they immediately think, 'What does he want?'"

Sadly, there's an even bigger bummer that's a coda to this story. Corabi's son is a drummer and recently got a record deal. Crue drummer Tommy Lee had gifted him with a drum set at the age of 12 and when he wrote personal message to Lee, showing him the kit and how he inspired him to get where he is today, the famed Crue skinsman did not respond.

That was the straw that broke the camel's back for Corabi. After that diss of his son of all people, he said he is done and declared, "I'm not reaching out to those guys anymore. It takes me a little longer to figure things out than most but I figured that there really is no friendship there."

Corabi recently released his debut solo album, John Corabi Unplugged.

I hate that it went to hell with the new crue then. Alot of us die hard fans went to the show and actually loved it. the fact is we saw a much darker and gutteral side of crue with corabi and nikki seemed to work it well. but instead of giving it a chance they ran back to that whiner vince and begged him to come back. now vince's voice is complete crap. I was at one of his solo shows with vip passes standing next to his Gf side stage listening to him in disgust at his truly screwed up vocal cords now. then had to put a smile on and tell him he was good without my head exploding from the BS i fed him.....lol atleast corabi can still sing FFS!!!
