Buckcherry Singer Says His Father's Suicide Inspired Film He's Seeking Funding For (INTERVIEW)

Buckcherry's Josh Todd has written a short film as a companion to the band's new album, Confessions, which is largely based on the seven deadly sins. One of the more impactful songs on the 13-track album is "Sloth" about his father's suicide. That provides the cornerstone of the film.

"It's loosely based on my life," the 42-year-old Todd says. "When that tragic event happened in my life, with my father, I was 10. But the character in the short film is like 17 and he's in high school.

"The movie starts with him coming home and finding his father dead and then he acts out the seven sins in the grieving process. And while he's doing that, he meets a love interest at school. She kind of is the polar opposite of him and it softens him up a little bit. By the end of the film, he learns how to forgive his father and rides off into the sunset with his girl."

The 30-minute film will include music, he says. "It`s not going to be entire song, but there are scenes to every sin."

Filming has not started because the money has not yet been raised. "We've got a cast; we've got a director; we've got the locations - we just are having some issues with funding," says Todd.

He has contemplated using a crowd-funding site such as Kickstarter or PledgeMusic, but the band decided against it.

"We thought about it, but that has backfired for a few artists. The economy is really not great and so we didn't want to offend people by asking them for money, so I'm trying to figure out another way to do it."

Confessions is available now via Century Media on iTunes.
