Evile Paying Their Respect With Final Memorial Shows

After the news was received stateside that bassist Mike Alexander of Evile had passed away in Sweden back in early October, the metal community united on one front to express their deepest condolences. Now the U.K. thrash outfit have announced news of two final shows taking place in December as a memorial to both former bandmate and dear friend as stated in a press release yesterday.

Included on both shows, labelmates Gama Bomb will also be performing along with Mutant and Seregon. In addition, limited edition and signed prizes will be raffled off during the shows and all funds raised will be going directly to the Alexander family.

In the release, Evile's lead guitarist, Ol Drake, states, " These two nights are for all the friends and fans of Mike who haven't had a real chance to say goodbye, and also for us to hold something a lot more appropriate than any funeral could be. Mike wasn't religious, and his beliefs were solely based in music, so there is no better way to say goodbye."

Savage Messiah, 'Insurrection Rising' -- New Album

Carrying to the tradition of classic heavy metal in the U.K., the London-based band Savage Messiah make their way stateside with their debut release on Candlelight Records this week. Resonant with classic thrash sounds and precision in their technical musicianship, this is a band to keep on the radar in the coming months.

With their album produced by Chris Tsangrides -- notable for his involvement with Anvil, Judas Priest and Yngwie Malmsteen, just to name a few -- Savage Messiah are both a strong and positive representation to both the United Kingdom and its metal scene.

To date, the band has some shows coming up in November and December to end the year, but there has been no word as to whether the band will be making their way to the U.S. in support of the release just yet. Slayer, 'World Painted Blood' -- New Album

Since their inception in 1983, one of the founding fathers of thrash, Slayer, have attracted metal audiences since day one. With lightning fast riffs and aggressive lyrics album after album, it's no surprise that on the day of their 11th studio release they would continue in the same fashion.

The new album, titled 'World Painted Blood,' was produced by Greg Fidelman (Metallica, Slipknot, Life of Agony) and executive producer Rick Rubin (Down, Danzig, Linkin Park). In comparison to past releases, the latest from the Huntington Park, Calif. band has really fused in a lot of classic Slayer elements from past releases into one. For longtime fans of Slayer, expect nothing less than sheer brutality, and new material to sink your teeth in.

With the new release out to the masses, there will be a short delay on appearances, including the band's postponement of their Canadian Carnage Tour, set to begin on Nov. 8 with Megadeth. Due to a recent back injury suffered by lead vocalist Tom Araya, Araya has been directed under the physician's orders to perform an immeidate surgical procedure which is slated to take place this morning.

The Red Chord, 'Fed Through the Teeth Machine' -- New Album

Available in stores this week, the fourth studio album from Revere, Massachusetts' the Red Chord is out to the masses and just in time for the Halloween weekend this album is creepy down to the title -- or is it? Recently stated online, the album title was derived from the Discovery Channel show 'How It's Made.' When watching an episode about how zippers were made, they found it creepy enough to bring to the table. Produced by the band and mixed and mastered from Chris 'Zeuss' Harris the album is a clear indicator of maturity in musicianship that trademarks their deathcore sound. Yet it's also in this go-round that they've accented more melodies for a fluid groove track after track which leaves audiences wanting more.

Since recording their album in the middle of 2009, the band took care of business and set out to join labelmates Job for a Cowboy and Gwar for tour starting in October. Making their rounds up until early December of this year, no details have been released as of yet as to what's to come touring wise for the band in the new year. We'll keep our ears and eyes peeled to give you the news as it develops.

October brought in a heap of new rock releases, but in November we can expect new albums from the titans in Slayer, and skullets will be in full effect thanks to the likes of the Devin Townsend Project. Plus full-length debuts will drop from Throwdown and their new home at E1 Entertainment, as well as resissues of King Diamond coming in from Metal Blade Records.

With the fifth studio release from the North Carolina progessive death metal act Between the Buried and Me, vocalist Tommy Rogers says that the new album is, "some of the best material they ever created," and we agree. The band keeps to their palette of style changing based on the vocals provided; but despite the complexity, it carries depth with meaning.

When speaking to Noisecreep recently, Rogers explained that he "got really obsessed with the human brain, magic and code" during the writing process of the album, and thus created one of their best singles to date "Obfuscation," which is sure to please a myriad of metal audiences. This release is right up the alley for both fans of Cynic and Opeth!

Pelican, 'What We All Come to Need' -- New Album

Crafting and perfecting the instrumental music genre and ambience that audiences recognize them for, Chicago's Pelican are both out on the road and out with a new album this week, thanks to new label home Southern Lord Records.

Unable to be pigeonholed by the variety of their musical influences as well as the lack of a vocalist, the new album keeps a heavy focus on its sound and taking a light hearted approach on such tracks as 'Glimmer' and then sludging it up and tuning low on others such as 'The Creeper' this album is yet another success and if you need a soundtrack to your days, start it off with this album.

As the album title suggests, the Nashville, Tenn. based hard rock band Creed have rolled out this week with their first new album since their hiatus in 2004. Working with Grammy-nominated producer Howard Benson (Blindside, Daughtry, Dead By Sunrise), the album takes a heavier path this time around. 'Full Circle' is indeed an album that has shown the band's roots and foundations and has matured to reunite both the band with its fans and attract new audiences even in the hard rock realm.

This past week, metal was on the brink of clinching #1 on the charts thanks to an iconic rock band -- until some Hallmark mothers decided to purchase Michael Buble. Nevertheless as reported by our friends over at Metal Insider, the legendary rock act Kiss respectably took the #2 debut with 108,000 albums sold in its first week. In this day and age, that is still an amazing number for first week sales. As well, other notable debuts pulled in from Fearless Records' Blessthefall with a #56 debut, and the black metal ensemble Immortal also managed 3,200 albums sold this week. What can we expect for this week in new releases? Well I'm glad you asked.

Converge -- 'Axe to Fall' -- Epitaph
This week the longtime scene stalwarts Converge are out at the gates with their seventh studio full-length. An early act that blended the best of metal, hardcore and punk, many of today's bands have cited Converge as a direct influence -- and rightfully so. From tracks on the album such as 'Deep Horse' and the title track 'Axe to Fall' both hitting heavy, fast and precise, this is an album that you should pick up this week.

Fu Manchu -- 'Signs of Infinite Power' -- Century Media
Keeping true to the essence of stoner rock, San Clemente, Calif. legends Fu Manchu are in the mix of new releases this week with their 10th full-length, out on Century Media. In a second astounding week for music this past week many big names in metal took the cake this past week on the charts. With some notable debuts compiled by the Metal Insider team, the long time act Alice in Chains came in with a 5 debut on the charts , the most brutal toons in Metalocalypse's Dethklok came in with a recorded 45,000 sold in its first week, and the self -titled release for Hatebreed came in at 37 this week with 15,000 units at new label home E1 Records. Can the third time be a charm for metal releases in stores? Only you can make that happen, so check out these new albums available in retail stores.

Baroness -- 'Blue Album' -- Relapse
The latest from the sludge metal ensemble from Savannah, Ga., this album is multifunctional in not only amazing tunes, but teaching kids colors for school! Ok now really; this album has been anticipated for sometime and finally available in stores and streaming online, the band manages to fine tune the art of long melodic progressions with that accented Southern twang in such tunes including 'A Horse Called Golgotha.' And if that's not enough incentive to purchase the album, don't overlook the beautifully crafted artwork provided by lead vocalist John Baizley as well. From appearance to sound, this is an album to get this week.

Skeletonwitch -- 'Breathing the Fire' -- Prosthetic
Another amazing album is coming in from the other side of the metal spectrum, from the Athens, Ohio Skeletonwitch this week. In the vein of traditional thrash laced with black metal vocals, this album evokes that metal can be heavy as f---, old school in its moniker as well as fun all at once. Currently on the road right now with Black Dahlia Murder, Toxic Holocaust and Trap Them make no hesitation when picking up this album.

Massive could be an understatement when it comes to the response to metal releases this past week. Coming in with the full reports as always, the good folks at Metal Insider reported some big debuts and numbers for new albums that dropped this past week. One of the biggest debuts clocked in at #7 for the rock ensemble Five Finger Death Punch, while the latest release of covers from Children of Bodom shifted 5,600 units. Following just behind that was Century Media's Despised Icon. These Canadians moved 3,000 units with their third full-length, while Finnish power metal act Sonata Arctica came in with a resounding 2,000 albums in first week sales. Lita Ford -- 'Wicked Wonderland' -- JLRG Entertainment
With 14-15 years preparation, the seventh studio release from Lita Ford hits stores this week. Keeping it all in the family -- both literally and metaphorically speaking -- the new release was produced by her husband Jim Gillette, while Greg Hampton brings longtime fans a heavier taste of one of the first ladies of metal. Fall of Troy -- 'In the Unlikely Event' -- Equal Vision
The wait is over! Available this week is the fourth studio length release from the post-hardcore/mathcore trio the Fall Of Troy. This past week, metal releases came out of the woodwork. And with it came eye-popping first week numbers and even a top 10 debut. Reported by the folks at Metal Insider, this past week drew in a #35 debut for the good guys in Shadows Fall with their latest album 'Retribution,' Porucipine Tree came in with 17,500 albums sold in its first week, and the MVP of metal of course goes to long time thrash act Megadeth coming in with an astounding #9 debut on the charts with 45,000 sold. Are albums sales going back to their old habits, with records being sold like hot cakes? Not one person can firmly say, but we certainly hope for the best. Regardless, here's what's also in store for you -- in stores this week!

Alice In Chains -- 'Black Gives Way To Blue' -- Virgin
It's been 14 years since the Seattle-based Alice In Chains released their self titled album. And with the passing of lead vocalist Layne Staley in 2002, Jerry Cantrell has pushed forward with a new frontman to bring you this week's new release. Still carrying the essence that is Alice In Chains, long time fans need not worry as they haven't deviated from their original sound. If anything, this is a nostalgic album that will bring back the good memories.

Austrian Death Machine -- 'Double Brutal' -- Metal Blade
Also available to the masses this week, the side project of As I Lay Dying's Tim Lambesis comes back for a second go round as the Arnold Schwarzenegger inspired side project hits stores this week. I think what will have metal fans really excited on this new release is the myriad of guest appearances from notable musicians including Buz McGrath (Unearth), Rocky Gray (Living Sacrifice), Andrew Tapley (the Human Abstract) and Kris Norris (Darkest Hour) just to name a few. Just this past week, metal took the stage with some amazing debuts from some beloved bands of the genre, as well as fresh new faces in the scene. Reported from the good foks at Metal Insider, the acoustic guitar act Rodrigo y Gabriela came in with an amazing start of over 13,000 albums sold in its first week with their newest '11:11'; the Century Media outfit 3 Inches of Blood picked up a #195 debut on the charts with 'Here Waits Thy Doom'; Nuclear Blast's Threat Signal clocked in with 1,100 sold and the European folk metal band Ensiferum also notched 900 albums in first week sales. Will we see a repeat of debuts this coming week? We'd certainly like to hope so.

Vader -- 'Necropolis' -- Nuclear Blast
This week, Poland takes the limelight as veteran death metal act Vader will release their eighth studio release, a follow-up from their 2006 album 'Impresions In Blood.' With a new lineup in place, should fans worry about a completely new sound or change in direction? Rest assured, you needn't fret in the slightest, as the new album keeps to the band's trademarks in tact, in both lyric and song.

Ruiner -- 'Hell Is Empty'

Last week in the metal realm, things were booming! From the 50,000 diehard Juggalos who came out to purchase Insane Clown Posse's latest to the 45,000 fans who snatched up the hard rock melodies fashioned by Chevelle on their latest, 'Sci Fi Crimes,' it's clear that the genre and its fans are continuing to making a profound impact on the charts. All these stats were previously reported by the Metal Insider crew. Other notable debuts came in for E1's Dirge Within with a good start of 500 albums for their debut release 'Force Fed Lies'. NOT EVERYTHING IN LIFE IS FREE, BUT GAMA BOMB IS: Reported this week, Ireland's finest, Gama Bomb, will be releasing their upcoming album for free on Nov. 5. Titled 'Tales From the Grave in Space' and being released on Earache Records, the album will be available for download directly from the label's site.

Lead vocalist Philly Byrne states, "It doesn't matter who you are, where you live or whether you're skint or loaded right now -- on Nov. 5 you can have our album for free, no questions asked." We don't plan on asking any questions, we just plan on enjoying.

NOT THE VIDEO GAME, THE BAND: For Adelaide, Australia's Double Dragon, they'll be embarking on the chance of a lifetime as opening support on select Australian dates with longtime Thrash acts Slayer and Megadeth this coming October. Currently on Truth Inc. recordings, the band will wrap up the support dates to later head back into the studio for their forthcoming sophmore release with just enough time to follow on an upcoming run with Chimaira in January 2010. With all these amazing support slots, it'd be foolish not to keep these guys on our radar, so we hope to have more news for you on the band soon.

The holiday weekend has passed, and while Noisecreep got some rest, there was no rest for the wicked on retail shelves when it came to metal. With amazing releases in tow, last week metal made its mark on the charts. Reported from the crew over at Metal Insider, the top releases of the week were notable debuts ifrom Solid State's Oh, Sleeper, with 4,000 units sold in the first week. Richmond, Va.'s Municipal Waste enjoyed 2,100 in first week sales. Additionally, Century Media's Caliban brought in solid numbers with their latest release, titled 'Say Hello To Tragedy,' and the pirates of Korpiklaani also brought in a great start to their newest release, 'Karkelo'.

With last week in the rear view, here's what you can look forward to this week in metal.

Infected Mushroom -- 'Legend Of Black Shawrama' -- Perfecto Records
It's not every day you hear of new releases that mash the metal and electronic/trance world in one cohesive unit. But this week, it happened! Hailing from places as diverse as Israel and Los Angeles, the duo collaborated in an effort to bring a unity amongst the genres, and with the assistance of Korn's Jonathan Davis on their single 'Smashing the Opponent,' they managed to do so with finesse as well as brutality. Hey, fans of KMFDM and Rammstein, this is right up your alley.

THE PRICE IS WRONG BOB: After just releasing their newest music video for the single 'Wrong Answer' last week, Noisecreep went out to the set during the making of the music video to meet up with the band and also touch base with director Dave Brodsky, who's had his hand in a number of other videos, including Through the Eyes of the Dead, Shai Hulud, Arsis and many more. Sitting down with drummer Dave Witte, he told Noisecreep, "Throughout the whole process, everything has had such a smooth transition from start to finish and been nothing but good times."

Working for the first time with Brodsky, he was quick to praise the band, because "there's nothing prissy about these guys. They have an awesome sense of humor, and really brought some good ideas forward for the concept of the video."

Entering into the first week of September, Noisecreep starts the month off with some amazing releases and notable debuts on the charts from the week prior. Reported by the good folks at Metal Insider, the projected 10-15,000 units sold was damn near spot on with Victory's Otep pulling in the highest debut, with 10,400 albums sold. As well, labelmates Emmure roped in a #60 debut on the charts, with 7,800 sold, followed by those outer space aliens we've come to know and love as Gwar, hitting #96 on the charts -- and marking their first-time debut on the charts. Can we expect more metal to make an impact this go-round? Well why don't we first tell you what to look forward to in retail stores this week.

MadLove -- 'White With Foam'-- Ipecac
Joining from various parts of the worl,d including Iceland, Korea, and our beloved Brooklyn, N.Y., the debut album from MadLove is available this week from Ipecac Recordings. With an assortment of distortions, chords and melodies, Trevor Dunn of Mr. Bungle/Fantomas fame has played an active role in this debut release. So be sure to scope it out this week.

Black Anvil -- 'Time Insults The Mind' -- Relapse
There's nothing more beautiful than seeing black metal and thrash harmonize together, so it was inevitable that some good words had to be written up about New York-based Black Anvil. Their newest release on Relapse Records has shrill screams in the background of each track, while keeping the tempo of the songs fast paced. Soon joining up with Mantic Ritual and Nachtmystium on the road. Don't pass up the opportunity to purchase this album this week.
