Coming straight of out of Southern California is a group dealing out such high-quality traditionally-flavored heavy metal that Noisecreep covered them when they didn't even have a record deal. Yes, Huntress are that great. We knew the secret would get out to the world one day, so it's no surprise that the folks at Napalm Records signed up Huntress to a shiny new record deal in late 2011.

Lead by a force of nature named Jill Janus, Huntress' upcoming debut album, 'Spell Eater,' will surely make it to the year-end lists come next December. Thundering drums, heavy riffs, spectral solos, and catchy choruses, are the basis of Huntress' sound, which is majestically crowned by Janus' powerhouse vocals.

'Spell Eater' won't hit North American stores till May 8, but in this Noisecreep exclusive, we bring you the premiere of the album's killer cover art!

"When I was just a kid driving around in the car with my mom, she would pretty much let me listen to whatever I wanted," The Devastated frontman Greg Wilburn tells Noisecreep. "She never once censored my music. She grew up loving bands like Led Zeppelin and Pink Floyd... and I think she just "got it." Kids are usually going to listen to exactly what their parents despise most, it's part of that pre-teen/teen rebellion stage."

Based in Riverside, Calif., and featuring former members of Impending Doom, The Devastated play the kind of gonad-crushing metalcore that will surely horrify parents from one end of the globe to other. The quintet will be infect record store shelves on Feb. 14 when they drop 'Devil's Messenger,' the group's debut album. Featuring a crushing mix by Daniel Castleman (As I Lay Dying) and guest vocals from Mitch Lucker of Suicide Silence, the album is being issued by the folks at Century Media.

Wilburn's obsession with music began in grade school: "Being about nine-years-old or so and really starting to find appreciation for music for the first time, it wasn't long before I discovered that the more aggressive the song, the more I enjoyed it. With the Internet being just a twinkle in some physicist's eye at that point, all I had at that age was the radio to find new music. I remember thinking bands like Nirvana and the Offspring were pretty cool, it seemed like they had attitude and I was usually happy to hear their songs come on the radio. At that point and time, such bands had by far the most aggressive songs you would ever hear on public radio. However, I still always found myself wanting and needing more."

Noisecreep figured Wilburn would be a great addition to our 'Five Albums That Changed My Life' series.

Earlier this week, word got out that Killswitch Engage rehired original vocalist Jesse Leach back into their lineup. Leach sang on the band's first self-titled album, which came out in 2000, and on their landmark 2002 Roadrunner debut 'Alive or Just Breathing.' Ohio vocalist Howard Jones replaced Leach in 2002 and split with the group in late 2011.

In an exclusive interview with Noisecreep, founding guitarist Adam Dutkiewicz spoke about the reunion with Leach.

"Honestly, we didn't want to jump into anything too quickly. We were in a position where we could take our time and try out as many singers as we wanted. There are a lot of talented singers out there, and we didn't want to rush everything. We ended up mulling it over a bit, and we tried out a few different people," Dutkiewicz reveals about Killswitch's time between singers.

"When we got back in the rehearsal room with Jesse, it just felt right. He's one of my good friends, and the awkwardness of meeting someone for the first time, and all of that stuff, was gone when he jammed with us again. We also knew what Jesse is capable of, so it just took all of us getting in a room together again to remember how cool it once was. He blew us away," says Dutkiewicz.

He might be most famous for his guitar and songwriting work in Def Leppard, but Phil Collen isn't the kind of musician that's satisfied resting on his laurels. These days he's juggling several projects, with Manraze -- the power trio that also features his former Girl bandmate Simon Laffy on bass and Sex Pistols drummer Paul Cook -- taking up a bulk of his time.

"We're actually re-releasing our 'PunkFunkRootsRock' album, because when Manraze originally released it last year, I was out on tour with Def Leppard, and everything was in transition. This time we're trying to give the album the attention it deserves. I'm also excited about this new track called 'Take on the World' we recently recorded," Collen tells Noisecreep.

'Take on the World' features a side of the guitarist we've never seen before. "It's actually a dance track that has a techno, electronica kind of thing to it. Manraze recorded it for a documentary called 'I, Superbiker -- The Showdown,' which is about British motocross. A guy named Tommy Hill is a legend in that sport, and he inspired the song. It's got that winning spirit thing to it in the lyrics." Early on his career Tommy suffered a near fatal motocross accident which caused him to lose a kidney and his spleen. Medical issues and a hard bout with food poisoning in 2006 have dogged his career and have caused him to take Penicilin every day, but that didn't stop him from winning the MCE Insurance British Super Bike Championship in 2011.

Taproot will release their sixth full length album, 'The Episodes,' on April 10. The forthcoming effort is produced by Tim Palatan who previously worked with the band on 2010's 'Plead the Fifth' album.

Nearly six years in the making, 'The Episodes' is a complex concept album, a first for the Michigan band. Bassist Phil Lipscomb spoke on the Taproot's creative process for this record, "I think our fans have come to expect the unexpected from us. Having written the story for this album before the music, this record sounds more like a soundtrack than a typical album, with the songs flowing together and taking you on a journey."

This year marks the 15th anniversary of the group, demonstrating their strong reputation atop the modern hard rock empire. Lipscomb talked about the longevity of the band, "I've spent almost half of my life in Taproot traveling the world and I would sum up the whole experience as: I love my job!"

Opeth's Mikael Åkerfeldt and Porcupine Tree's Steven Wilson have teamed up in a new project they've dubbed Storm Corrosion. The prog-rock stars will release their self-titled debut album on April 24 via Roadrunner Records.

Åkerfeldt and Wilson have been friends since the late '90s, when Wilson co-produced Opeth's revered 'Blackwater Park' album. Over the years, they'd often spoken of working on a project together, but it wasn't until recently that they managed to make something happen, when Mikael flew over to visit Steven in the UK and they ended up in Wilson's home studio throwing ideas around. That visit was the nascence of a whole self-titled album, written and produced by the pair, and mixed by Wilson.

Roadrunner Records describes Storm Corrosion's sound as "enchanting, orchestral, ambient, epic (half the album's tracks clock in around the 10-minute mark) and nothing short of surprising to the new ear."

Lacey Sturm recently released 'Heavy Prey,' the Flyleaf frontwoman's contribution to the 'Underworld: Awakening' soundtrack. "There are four movies in the franchise now, but when I took on the project, I had only seen the first two. I had to go on some websites to learn about the plot of the new film, and then I wrote my lyrics around that," Sturm told Noisecreep about 'Heavy Prey,' a collaboration with former Filter guitarist Geno Lenardo. "You would think that they would have let me see the film before I wrote the song, but no luck there [laughs]."

The last year has been life-changing for Sturm, who is married to Joshua Sturm, guitarist of the band Kairos. "I lived most of my life in Texas, but I've settled down in Pittsburgh. My husband is from here. We met at a Flyleaf show in Columbus. Anyway, when we got pregnant, we decided to move here to be closer to his family," Lacey tells Noisecreep.

After weeks of online speculation, it looks like Killswitch Engage has reunited with original vocalist Jesse Leach. Although the band, or their management, have yet to make a formal announcement, today, the American metalcore heroes posted a band photo (see above) featuring the singer, today, Feb. 6, on their official website.

Leach, 33, sang for Killswitch Engage from the band's 1999 inception, till 2002. The Rhodes Island native recorded the albums 'Killswitch Engage' (2000) and 'Alive or Just Breathing' (2002) before leaving the group. Since then, Leach has released albums as a member of the bands Seemless and The Empire Shall Fall, and in 2011 he joined Killswitch Engage guitarist Adam D. in the project Times of Grace, releasing 'The Hymn of a Broken Man' last year.

Howard Jones, Leach's replacement in Killswitch Engage, officially parted ways with the metallers on Jan. 4, 2012, after a decade with the band.

Slash is currently in a Los Angeles studio putting the finishing touches on his second solo album. The as-yet-untitled disc is due out May 22 on the guitarist's own label Dik Hayd International and will follow his 2010 eponymous debut album and his 'Made In Stoke 24/7/11' live solo album from 2011.

The album will be produced by Eric Valentine (Queens of the Stone Age, Taking Back Sunday), and feature Slash's recent touring band - Myles Kennedy (vocals), Brent Fitz (drums) and Todd Kerns (bass). Check out footage from the recording studio below.

Slash commented on the songwriting process for the upcoming album: "Myles and I basically collaborated on the new material. The main thing is we wrote these songs together which is a big difference from the last album where I wrote each song with all of the different collaborators. The whole creative nucleus is between Myles and me. On top of this, the whole rhythm section of Brent and Todd brings something to the table and changes the dynamic completely from the last record--it's much more cohesive."

Night Ranger bassist/vocalist Jack Blades is slated to release his brand new solo album, 'Rock N' Roll Ride,' on March 27.

The record follows Night Ranger's celebrated 2011 CD, 'Somewhere in California,' and their massive North American tour with Journey and Foreigner last year. Of the new offering, Blades commented, "'Rock N' Roll Ride' is an extension of what my music has been for the last 30 years. It has been quite a rock n' roll ride and I decided to lay it all down on a record!"

'Rock N' Roll Ride' features contributions from Blades' Night Ranger bandmates Brad Gillis, Kelly Keagy, Joel Hoekstra and Eric Levy, as well as a special guest appearance by Cheap Trick's Robin Zander. The first single from the album, 'Back in the Game,' will soon hit radio. Check out the album art and tracklisting below.

1977's 'The Grand Illusion' and 1978's 'Pieces of Eight,' two of Styx's most revered albums, were both performed in their entirety by the arena rockers on tour in 2010. The tour's stop at the historic Orpheum Theater in Memphis, Tenn. was captured by a film crew and the folks at Eagle Rock just released 'Styx: The Grand Illusion/Pieces of Eight Live,' a 20-song two-hour DVD/2-CD and Blu-Ray of the event.

Noisecreep got its hands on Styx's spirited performance of the title track to the classic rock radio staple 'The Grand Illusion.' Taken from the new DVD/Blu-Ray, the clip finds the group firing on all cylinders.

Pyramids is the brainchild of Texas multi-instrumentalist R. Loren. One of the most prolific artists working within the underground music community today, Lorn also records under the names White Moth and Sailors With Wax Wings, and has contributed to many other projects in the past few years. If that weren't already enough, he also runs a boutique label called Handmade Birds that released both older and current cutting-edge artists like Blut Aus Nord and Sutekh Hexen.
